The integration of Artificial Intelligence in Social Media platforms and its effects on privacy

I chose to do my project on The integration of Artificial Intelligence in Social Media platforms and its effects on privacy because we live in the digital era and people around the world use their electronic devises to connect and communicate with other people via chat, voice calls or video calls and that creates the opportunity or companies or governments to collect users data without their consent. This issue has become more evident since the beginning of Covid-19 pandemic and the following lockdown of all offices and schools since the use of the internet has become inevitable. I intend to cover both positive and negative aspects of our online lives and believe it is important to point out that the internet has changed our lives and enabled many of us to work and attend school from the safety of our homes during this pandemic, however, it also has changed some people’s live and ruined their carriers in do to privacy issues and lose of private information online. Most people tod...

Blog: Next New

Technology is changing at a rapid pace. Just ten years ago it was unimaginable to see how much cellphones would change and how depended the world would become to the internet. I believe the next new media will be Artificial Intelligence integrated into every aspect of our daily lives. Our cellphones, computers, and even TVs and even smart homes are already programmed with AI. Nowadays new electric cars have internet connection and options like auto pilot which is AI base. We are becoming more and more connected to virtual world and giving AI systems more accesses over our lives. Voice assistance programs like SIRI and Alexa are another example of AI technology surrounding our daily lives. Voice assistance programs started with cellphones, however, today homes and cars can be controlled with voice assistance programs.

Blog: P2P

File sharing allows digital media like software and movies etc. to be transferred from one computer over another through a network or the internet. File-sharing practice is not illegal, however, the content that is being shared could be illegal. File-sharing creates the opportunity or loophole for users to share copyrighted material and illegally make money from sharing those materials. A peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing is a network in which computer systems are connected to each other via the internet. Any type of file can be shared between these computer systems. Peer to peer file sharing is like connecting several computers to a router and share content between them and it can be limited to what files users allow to share. Unfortunately, P2P also allows for illegal sharing of copy-righted material and like File sharing it creates a black market for selling those materials. BearShare, LimeWire, KaZaa, eMule, Vuze, uTorrent and BitTorrent are examples of P2P file sharin...

Privacy

My term paper was about privacy in new media, especially the social media. Social media privacy has become a controversial issue. Social media platforms were created for the goal of connecting people and making our lives more convenient, however, these platforms are offered to users for free and therefore social media companies look elsewhere to sustain their business and generate profit for shareholders. In order to profit social media companies like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram sell ads and also collect social media users’ data and sell those for marketing and development purposes and most of this data is collected without users’ knowledge. Although these social media giants state that users own their intellectual properties, due to lack of laws protecting internet users, these companies do not allow users to access their platform unless the user signs license-able right. Although law makers and government agencies have put in some efforts to protect users and limit social m...

Advice

It is very interesting to be asked to give some advice to Baruch college during the time which we are taking classes online due to Covid-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, up until the pandemic began, majority of Baruch college professors refused to use the available technology to incorporate it into their classes. For the most part they would assign Homework on blackboard and shared class material like class notes and syllabus, but since the pandemic began, Baruch college students and professors were forced to convert to online teaching via blackboard and having class sessions on applications like Zoom. It was during this time that the lack of digital knowledge among Baruch professors and faculties showed its true face. Years of refusal to learn and use new technologies like computes and online applications Baby boomer’s generation professors and faculty forced Baruch college to cancel classes for several weeks and try to figure out a plan and caused students to suffer and miss out on ...

Creativity and New Media

Below videos were originally recorded on my iPhone from  the Grand Canyon National Park, I used video editing apps on my iPhone to convert the video to VHS style video. The video appears as if it has been recorded on an old fashion VHS camera. Due to the fact that Blog is not designed for uploading videos and it doesn't show the videos properly and in correct dimensions , I have uploaded them on my YouTube account and posted the YouTube videos here.

HW Creativity

Old media (digital or non-digital) was the medium to transfer information from writer/creator to the audience and it was a one-way communication from the creator to the audience. As the technologies advanced and new digital devices was introduced to consumers, it provided an opportunity for both creators and audiences of the new media to become creative and their ability to try new things that was not possible before. Digital technology provided the opportunity to people to use their electronic devices not only as a medium but also a content generating medium to create expression and new design language. With the use of Video editing, music editing and photo editing programs on computers and smart phones, even amateur users can create high quality and creative content to express their school of thought easily and conveniently. On example which shows the contributions of new media to creativity is in the Electronic Dance Music. In this style of music, DJs or ...
