Blog VS Wiki

Blogs are typically someone’s opinion which is followed by others comments below the post and blog posts has the tendency to be focused on the top news, personal experiences, and life stories of the blogger. Usually author of the blog is the only person who can audit the blog and post new content at a set time. Blog always shows the original publish date on the post and it does not show the dates that the post has been updated. Since only the author of the blog can post or audit information, blogs tends to be biased base on the authors believes and not exactly based on fact and academic sources.

Wiki articles represent consensus and could have an accompanying discussion page. In Wiki multiple authors can contribute and create a new post, audit the pervious posts, or even delete them. In Wiki the content is constantly changing, and viewer can the all the revision histories done by other authors. Wiki tends to be more scientific base and authors tend to provide fact and sources rather than just providing their own opinion.

I believe we have already been converged to the networked world via internet. We can claim that almost all businesses and individuals in advanced countries are connected to several social media accounts that are also connected to each other and it enables the user to publish a data at the same time on several platforms at the same time. For example, a TikTok video can be publish at the same time on Instagram, Facebook, What’s app and even Twitter. The converge of networks allows businesses and individuals to share information much faster and have a larger reach to their audience.

Collaboration with blogs can help an individual to raise awareness of a social issue and create a network of people who share the same believes. For example, during the MeToo movements collaboration between bloggers helped many individuals to start campaigning about workplace sexual harassments and push this movement to become a global movement helping women around the world to raise their voice. For small businesses and startup companies, collaboration with bloggers can help them raise awareness on their products and reach out to new customers.

It would be great if different colleges had a common wiki page that professor and students could contribute and collaborate on the common topics that and classes that those colleges have. For example, it would be nice to see NYU and CUNY colleges contributing materials about Finance, Art, Or any other majors that both colleges have in common.
